[Special lecturer]
Takuya Haneda
Born in 1987 in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, she is affiliated with MIKI HOUSE. Raised in a sporty family, she participated in gymnastics from the age of 7 to 9. Later, at the age of 9, influenced by her father and brother, she started canoe slalom. Aspiring to compete on the world stage, she immediately traveled alone to Slovakia, a powerhouse in canoeing, after graduating from high school. Overcoming language and cultural barriers, she dedicated herself to the sport and achieved significant personal growth.
Since making his Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he has competed in five consecutive Olympic Games: London (2012), Rio de Janeiro (2016), Tokyo (2021), and Paris (2024). At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, he became the first Japanese, and even the first Asian, to win a bronze medal in the canoe slalom event, which helped to raise awareness of canoeing in Japan.
Academically, she studied physical education and sports science at Comenius University in Slovakia and completed her graduate studies there. She mastered Slovak in just one year, demonstrating how her challenges in a foreign country allowed her to balance academics and athletics.
Currently, in addition to her athletic activities, she also serves as a board member and chairperson of the Athletes' Committee of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC). She actively contributes to the development of Japanese sports by sharing her perspective as an athlete with society.
His published works include "Voda: The Breath of Water," a collection of essays in which he recounts his own experiences and philosophy.
